Introducing the Official Shaolin Duan Pin Graduation System

In November 2022 we were very honored being visited in our monastery by Buddhist Master Yan Pei, Grandmaster Shi Yan Liang (from the Shaolin Temple in Vienna) together with Master Shi Yan Ti and Master Shi Yan Ye from the Songshan Shaolin Temple. They were sent to Europe in order to help establishing and spreading the official Songshan Shaolin Temple graduation system (Duanpin / Duan Pin).

The Songshan Shaolin Temple recently introduced the Shaolin Kung Fu level system. Literally it means "The Duan Pin Level System of Shaolin Kung Fu". According to the system, all types of Shaolin kung fu are divided into two consecutive levels "Duan" and "Pin". Duan is the junior high school and Pin is the high school. The Duan level itself is divided into nine smaller sub-levels, namely Duan One through Nine. Anyone who has reached Duan Nine qualifies for the upper level pin. Like "Duan", "Pin" consists of nine smaller parts, namely pins one to nine put together. But there is one important difference: each pin level is also divided into the three even smaller levels "Jie". So the upper stage pin consists of 27 parts. The answer to the question asked at the beginning is: "It takes 36 steps to go from a kung fu amateur to a kung fu master. There are concrete theoretical and practical criteria for each ascent.
